Against all evens by Subash Anguru
Book Review
Been a while since I read a novel, I still have some started
but unfinished books, some yet to start. This one came as a request from my
dear childhood pal, Anil and I just had to order it. This also happens to be a
book which I completed fast…real fast…started Saturday early morning at 3 AM and completed it
Sunday early morning at 4 AM..Well, I remember those days when I used to fight sleep to
complete my favorite writer Sidney Sheldon’s books.
Coming to this book, I was engrossed with it from start to
finish. I usually don’t like love stories much as they all are the same one way
or the other...some have a happy ending and many don’t! It is same with real
life as well. This one reflects real life and as the writer said, it doesn’t
matter if the characters from this story are real or not. It could be any one’s
story for that matter. I also liked the flow of the story which was
smooth from start to finish. I even remembered my life while reading this one
like any other good story I have read so far. It made me feel nostalgic...
The good thing about the story is that it has the suspense and keeps the readers guessing…guessing what would happen to the lead characters Samar and Shruthi? Because, it starts with her marriage to someone else…Would Samar recover from the pain and move on in life? Would he find someone else and settle in his life? Well, he had love affairs before he met Shruthi, but they didn’t last so long or went so deep as this one. That is main crux of the plot.

I also felt that this love story was some
what different from those I have read so far. Maybe, it is the narration which
makes it different and the writer needs to be appreciated for that. He makes
you root for his two lead characters, feel their joy and pain. You get the
feeling as if you are living with these two characters while you are reading
the book. And that is the magic of story telling which I know being a fellow
writer myself.
The writer’s note in the end is a good one too. I like when I come across people who inspire others to do well with their inspiring words and good intention at heart. That’s what Subash does here! This is his first book and it is well written. I wish him all the very best and hope people buy, read and make it a big success, so that he could be motivated to come up with the next story…pretty soon!
Finally, Thanks Anil, for suggesting me a good book and making me read it!
My rating for this book is 3.5/5
