Miss You
A Short Story By G.S.Vasukumar

"Banwara mann dekhne chala ek sapna"...crooned the FM radio of his mobile and he wondered, " Can we ever stop dreaming?"

He switched off the FM radio before walking towards one of the cars on the roller coaster and taking a seat. He nervously buckled on his seatbelt. This was the first time he was going for this ride. Soon all the cars of the roller coaster got filled by busy chatting people except of his. The seat next to him was still empty and wasn't accompanied by anyone.A young girl walked over to the car and gracefully sat down beside him. As she buckled her seatbelt, turned and smiled at him.The same song came out again from some nearby speaker in the Fun World.

Her smile was so beautiful that he too smiled back at her.

“First time..” She said still smiling at him.

“Me too,” He replied smiling back at her.

The roller coaster moved forward with a sudden jerk. It started climbing upward tracks before it could rush down the slope, she held his hand tightly and closed her eyes….He just turned and looked at her beautiful face…He was lost…almost forgot when it rushed down. To be frank even he too was scared.

“Is it over?” She asked still closing her eyes.

“No..not yet.” He said. The roller coaster went up and came down another slope and came to final halt. He freed his hand from her clasp and was about to remove his belt, when she held his hand.

“One more ride please..” She said smiling at him.

“But you are scared and close your eyes…” He said.

“No, this time I will keep my eyes open, ok?” She said.

“Alright.” He said smiling at her. He felt like leaving…but somehow sat back for another ride for her sake. The roller coaster started moving again, as it climbed upward tracks…she turned and looked at him and asked :- “What’s your name?”

“Krishna.” He said.

“I am Sapna.” She said smiling and extending her hand to him.

He held her hand as it rushed down suddenly. She pressed his hand and closed her eyes. He looked at her face and smiled. It went up and came down another slope.

“Sapna, Its over…shall we go?” He asked her.

She opened her eyes and smiled at him, letting go his hand.

“Krishna, shall we have ice cream?” She asked. “I want to treat you.”

“Ok,” He said.

She bought vanilla ice-cream clones for both and they started walking towards a colourful water fountain in the Fun World. They started talking as if they knew each other for a long time. They went and sat on a bench and started discussing on so many topics. They realized that they had many similarities between them. They even exchanged their mobile numbers and email ids. Later, they bid bye to each other and left. She called him that night and they spoke to each other. He had told her that he writes short stories. She wanted to read some of them. So He forwarded some of his short stories to her email id. She liked them and complimented him.

“Some day, you will become a great writer! I will stand in the queue to get your autograph.” She told him.

He just smiled at her. They both loved reading too. So he gave her his Sidney Sheldon, Jeffrey Archer and Dan Brown novels. They became best of friends within a short span of time.

Slowly, he started falling in love again. He was thinking to propose to her and felt she may accept it. He decided to propose her by writing a nice poem. She loved poetry and he thought this was the best way to propose.

He had lost his poetic touch as it had been a long time since he wrote his last poem, so he searched for his old diary in which he had written many poems and found it.He took it and started turning the pages. He went to the kitchen and made himself a cup of coffee. He came to the terrace with the coffee mug in one hand and the old diary in the other hand.

He started turning the pages slowly…reading it and having little sips of coffee, standing near the railings of the terrace. The wind ruffled his hair gently. He looked up at the evening sky and it had a beautiful rainbow. It brought a smile to his face.He looked back into the diary and found the poem which he had written on Sadna…

Miss You
A Poem

I miss you,
Like I never missed
you before.
Tell me, is this feeling
same to you?
The joy of being with
you is always
greater,
So the moments
without you hits
me to a new low.
So come, hug and
be to me more closer,
So that winning
everything else
doesn't make me
feel like a loser.
Remember life
doesn't last
forever,
But my love for
you always would
and its true.

It brought back those wonderful memories of the past to his mind and tears to his eyes. Suddenly, he started missing Sadna a lot. He placed the cup of coffee on the wall of the terrace and looked at the infinite sky. The sun was going down slowly and so had his love in his life then. He loved her so much…more than words can say. Never thought a day like this would come and he would part from her forever. Sadna wanted to continue their friendship after the love came to an end. But he couldn’t do it. It started hurting him a lot. He finally decided to go away from her life forever.

The wind started blowing against his face carrying his tears away with it. Maybe it couldn't see him cry or thought his tears were precious…

He went back to his room. He never thought that he would miss Sadna so much again. He switched on the FM radio and lying down on his bed. This time again the same song played which he had heard the day when he had first met Sapna.

"Banwara mann dekhne chala ek sapna"...He again wondered this time, "Can we ever stop dreaming?"…He closed his eyes and thought, ‘Will Sapna be my reality rather than being in my dream, this time’.

He did not want to lose a friend again because of this love.Meantime, in Sapna was thinking to propose to Krishna when they meet again. She was not sure whether he loved her or not? Maybe, she thought that he had considered her only as his best friend, so she decided not to express her love which had just started as she didn't want to lose her best friend from her life.

The End
