The Meeting

It was last summer, he had asked her whether it was alright if he typed his letters to her. As he had thought that it would be more comfortable and time saving for him to do so and she had agreed. He even typed her and his address on the envelope too. It was a small pen friendship that had lasted nine long years between Priya and Rahul, who lived in two different cities and had never met before.

Priya always wanted to meet Rahul someday. Now, that time had finally come. Her best friend Sapna, whose father had been transferred to the city where Rahul lived, invited her to come for a few days and stay at her place and also to see the city. She readily agreed for that proposal.

So, they both met in a park and he handed her a bunch of white lily flowers and she felt glad. They started walking inside the park, discussing many things and finally she asked him, why he didn't sign his last letter to her? Did he forget in hurry or what?

He replied that he couldn't master the signature so. She thought that he should be kidding. She looked at his face.

Suddenly, her feet hit something and she slipped and fell down and the flowers that she was carrying slipped from her hands and fell on a platform. He gave her a hand and pulled her up. She looked before her and found a grave. She wondered whose grave it was. The tombstone had the name of 'S.Rahul' and she was shocked.

He told her that they were infact standing before the Rahul's grave, who had expired last summer due to cancer and he didn't want Priya to know that for he felt that she might not bare his loss and hence, he asked to carry on the friendship with her as Rahul. So, he had given him some signed blank sheets of papers and asked him to carry on the friendship as long as possible and he had kept up his promise.

The reason why he didn't sign the last letter to her was that he had run out of those blank signed sheets which he had given him before dying on which he used to type those letters to her.
